If you have a bub, you already know there is a heap of packing needed to be done before leaving the house.
This becomes even more important if you’re going on a walk somewhere remote where you can’t simply duck into the shops to replace the wipes that have mysteriously gone missing from the nappy bag.
This is by no means an exhaustive list, but a few items that i have found helpful on the trail with my little bush bambino!
This is not a gear review or advertisement, just 100% a mumma’s opinion on what has worked well for me.
Comfortable Carrier
If you’re going on a walk where you need to baby wear, a carrier that has good support, is breathable and is safe and comfortable for both bub and parent is numero uno on the list.
You want to be able to have full use of both hands so you can support yourself when needed and for the younger bambini, a safe spot to snooze so you’re able to hit the trail over a nap!
Travel picnic rug
Full disclosure, i have a thing for picnic rugs so this was always going to be on my list. But a small, portable picnic rug that you can fit in your bag is so handy for those hikes where there are no facilities except for the rock ledges overlooking the waterfalls!
Pick a mat that has a bit of padding, so you wont mind plonking bubba down, or your own tush for that matter!
It needs to be small enough to not take too much room in your backpack.
A backpack that fits all the things + waterbladder
A bit of an obvious one but you need a comfy backpack that features enough pockets to segment all of bub’s and your stuff. Don’t feel it needs to be a nappy bag though, a good daypack might service you better. I’ve found having a backpack with a water bladder that gives me access to water without needing to stop has been helpful in staying hydrated on the trail, without needing to stop and take off the bag to get my water bottle out.
If you’re looking to use a hiking carrier – look for one with decent storage and a place for a water bladder.
