The long
Access
Robertson Roundabout is situated within the Royal National Park, at Currawong Flat picnic area, near Audley. Cross Varney’s bridge just past the dance hall and cafe and park your car at the parking available at the picnic area. Note there is a park entry fee to the Royal National Park.
There are a number of picnic tables and chairs if you need to sit and feed bub before you set off. The Audley Dance Hall cafe is also close by if you need breakkie or lunch. Just be mindful of the swooping kookaburras if you’re feeding bub at the cafe!
We acknowledge that this walk is on the lands of the Dharawal people and pay our respects to their elders past, present and emerging.
The trail
The trail starts at the end of Currawong Flat picnic area, just beyond the toilet block. There is good signage at the start of the trail. The start of the walk will take you up a number of stone stairs – the first part of the walk is the steepest as you walk up the hill to the ridge.
At the top of the hill you will arrive at a fork with a sign – i recommend to follow the track clockwise, to do this, take the left track, following the signs for Robertsons Roundabout, heading towards Uloola falls.
We walked this trail in late summer and there were plenty of banksias lining the tracks getting ready to flower. This would be a great walk for late autumn when the banksias are out in or in spring when the other native wildflowers are in bloom.
Continue to follow the bush track by keeping right at any other forks in the trail and following signs for Robertsons Roundabout. There are a number of other trails that join with this trail – hence the name of the walk – Robertsons Roundabout.
The first side trail you will pass is for Uloola Falls, continue to keep right. Shortly after you will reach the highest point on the trail and then you will drop down onto a large rock platform with great views of the Hacking River and even to the city on the horizon. The rock platform is a great place to stop for a scenic break. We laid out our small picnic rug and chose to have lunch here, keeping a close eye on bub.
After the rock platform, you will pass one more side trail – Engadine track, keep right and you will soon arrive back at the top of the hill of the first track junction.
Retrace your steps down the hill and back to Currawong Flats picnic area. If bub isnt due for a sleep yet, you could set up a picnic by the river and look back to the ridge you just explored!
Total climbing: 130 m
